For most people, vision is a process that seems self-evident. In reality, however, the visual process but is based on a complex interplay between eyes and brain. In this book, the basic functions of the visual process are described. These are similar in humans and in various animals, but may vary greatly in specific aspects. The differences often prove to be optimally adapted to the way of life of the animals.

The textbook is primarily aimed at students of veterinary medicine and biology, and describes the main features of the vision and their differences between animal species. The references provide an invway for further, in-depth study of the different aspects of vision.
