About this book

Language: Bilingual in English and Chinese

Camellias of China includes 801 Chinese Camellia cultivars and species. Among of them, 439 are C. japonia cultivars, 175 are C. reticulata cultivars, 30 are C. sasanqua cultivars, 33 are Camellia spp. cultivars, 36 are wild Camellia species and 22 are golden camellia. Only cultivars traditionally cultivated in China or that were selected or bred in China and are considered as Chinese camellia cultivars, have been included in Camellias of China.

Although numerous research papers and monographs on camellia have been published in recent decades, there has not been a book which has introduced all the Chinese camellias completely. Many historical problems and questions about Chinese camellias remained unsolved and unanswered. Moreover, more problems about scientific research, industrialization, communication and nomenclatural standards appeared along with the development and research of camellias and these problems have often hindered the progress of camellia research and exchange. Through the great efforts of the Chinese Camellia Society and active participation of many colleagues, we compiled Camellias of China. A large number of persons participated in compiling Camellias of China authors include many of the famous and currently active camellia researchers, enthusiasts, propagators and breeders in China.
