About this book

Language: English with introductory chapters bilingual in English and Spanish

The book Colombian Caribbean Seashells contributed to the cataloguing of 1530 species, placing Colombia as the country with the richest biodiversity of marine mollusks in the Western Hemisphere. Many new species were discovered and photographed for the first time in this book and many more are under identification for an upcoming article on deep water shells.

The total area covered by this study during the 5 year collection expedition was 30% of the contentinentalcoast and only 5% around the islands of San Andres and Providencia. This leads the authors to believe that they possess around 70% of the recorded species in the entire Western Hemisphere. They hope that the growing interest in the mollusca of this part of the Carribean Sea will allow them to investigate the remaining territory in the near future.
