This book gathers together 42 papers presented at the Symposium, Fishing with Electricity, hosted by the Humberside International Fisheries Institute in April, 1988. Seven different aspects on fishing with electricity were considered at the Symposium, namely: Electrophysiology of fish in electric fields; Electric fishing apparatus and electric fields; Factors affecting the efficiency of electric fishing; Electric fishing for sampling and stock assessment; Electric screens and guides; Electric fishing and safety; Electric fishing in practice. The selected papers, by acknowledged international experts, represent a round-up of all major advances in fishing with electricity over the last twenty years and should stimulate fisheries scientists, electronic engineers and academics to collaborate in further research to improve our understanding of fishing with electricity.
