Syrphidae is a large family of Diptera up to now. About 6000 species are known in the world. The syrphids larvae and adults are of economic importance.

In the present work 580 species of Syrphidae are described or recorded. They belong to 97 genera which are grouped into three subfamiles as follows: Syrphinae 42 genera and 221 species; Eristalinae 50 genera and 345 species; Microdontinae 5 genera and 14 species. Among them, 14 species are new to science, 4 genera and 33 species are new records in China. Detailed morphological descriptions, citations and distribution records of all the species are given in this work. Keys to tribes, genera and species are also given here.
