This volume describes members of the bivalve family Veneridae found in China's waters, covering a total of 88 species in 12 subfamilies, 28 genera, and 17 subgenera. The book is divided into two main parts. The first part, a general account, consists of five chapters covering a historical review of the studies of the family and systematic work by foreign and domestic scientists, a general account of their morphology, systematics and evolution, geographical distribution, and ecology and biology. The second part gives accounts of the Chinese species of Veneridae with each account covering diagnosis, morphology, geographical distribution, and a discussion of nomenclatural problems.
