The Ecuadorian members of Myrtaceae are revised. Fifteen genera and 131 native species are documented in Ecuador, viz. Amomyrtella (1 sp.), Blepharocalyx (1 sp.), Calycolpus (2 spp.), Calyptranthes (28 spp.), Campomanesia (2 spp.), Eugenia (43 spp.), Myrcia (20 spp.), Myrcianthes (10 spp.), Myrciaria (4 spp.), Myrrhinium (1 sp.), Myrteola (2 spp.), Plinia (5 spp.), Psidium (10 spp.), Siphoneugena (1 sp.) and Ugni (1 sp.).

Three additional genera, not treated in this volume, are introduced and cultivated in Ecuador, viz. Callistemon, Eucalyptus and Syzygium. Keys to the genera and species are presented along with information on ecology and distribution. Illustrations of at least one species of each genus are provided. Five species, Calyptranthes brunnea B. Holst & M. L. Kawas., C. Orientalis B. Holst & M. L. Kawas., Eugenia zamorensis B. Holst & M. L. Kawas.. Myrcia lojensis B. Holst & M. L. Kawas. and Myrcianthes rubra B. Holst & M. L. Kawas., are described as new to science and a new combination, Myrcianthes alaternifolia (Benth.) Grifo ex B. Holst & M. L. Kawas., is made.
