About this book

Language: French

Who does this footprint belong to? Who ate this nut? Why does the fox only trot in this place? Which animal is very interested closely in cabbages, apricots or chickens? Etc. The result of the authors' field experience, this comprehensive guide provides all the keys needed to identify the traces and clues left by animals (mammals, birds and reptiles) of the French and European fauna.

The book contains a general part allowing the reader to become familiar with the study of traces and tracks (ichnology), its subjects and its working methods. The substrates and their importance, the elements composing the studied samples (relation between foot and footprint, etc.) are also presented.

The heart of the book is composed of records of different species, their biology and their traces and clues. Each species is treated in the same way: footprints, trails, tracks and gaits – all described with a high degree of precision – followed by a description of excrements, finally that of other indicators (passageways, vegetation consumption, various types of nests or burrows, tufts of hair, food remains, etc.). A section entitled "Where to look" completes the information where possible.
