About this book

Language: Spanish

This is a monograph on a genus of flowering plants, Centaurea, considered to be the most diversified of the flora of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, where it is represented by 94 species, or 136 taxa considering the infraspecific variability, of which 67 are endemic to the territory. A description is given of the importance of vascular plants in the history of the vegetation of the territory and its current diversity. This is followed by a detailed description of the family and the tribe to which the genus belongs, as well as a profusely illustrated key to identifying species.

All species and subspecies known in the territory are detailed, and are accompanied by a rigorous iconography, distribution maps and abundant graphic information on plants and on some of the habitats in which they live. The book, which aims at a broad audience without losing scientific rigor, is of great interest to naturalists, botanists, and evolutionary biologists and conservationists.
