About this book

Language: Catalan

This richly illustrated field guide document the orchid flora of the Berguedà, an inland comarca (county) in Catalonia, Spain, lying partly in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, and partly in the Catalan Central Depression. This is an area with a rich and varied flora. Among the variety there is a great number of orchids, including some of the most attractive and sought-after species in the world of orchidology, and botany in general, due to their rarity.

Although all the flora in this area is interesting, this was one of the reasons that prompted the authors to consider making a work devoted exclusively to orchids. But what finally convinced them to write this book was the discovery of a specimen of Ophrys speculum or mirror orchid, an orchid that was not documented in the region before and, in fact, that is unusual to find in the region. We can therefore say that the idea of this book was born in Avia, where this discovery was made.
