About this book

Language: French

This herpetological fauna of the Pyrenees is the result of a naturalistic work, combined with a literature survey and photographic report. It offers a wide summary of data from multiple disciplines (systematics, taxonomy, biology, ecology, ethology, phenology... ) on 32 protected species, hitherto scattered over a variety of sources (as evidenced by the bibliographic list of 763 references consulted) and on both sides of the mountain chain (Spain, Andorra and France). It also offers a completely original iconography, featuring individuals and habitats photographed in the Pyrenees. This is to illustrate as best as possible the phenotypic variation specific to the geographical area and the ecological peculiarities of the Pyrenean reptiles. Accurate distribution maps (on a UTM 10 km × 10 km grid), based on scientific sources, complement and illuminate the biogeographic material. The endemic and subendemic species and subspecies of the chain, as well as those who have a special status (very localized, threatened ...), were the subject of special attention, and the threats to these animals are described in-depth.

This book will be invaluable for naturalists and managers of natural areas of the chain (national parks, PNR, Natura 2000, reserves...), which will have here a wealth of information on the subject.
