About this book

The second edition of Live Cell Imaging: A Laboratory Manual expands upon and extends the collection of established and evolving methods for studying dynamic changes in living cells and organisms presented in the well-known first edition. There are 16 new chapters and the 21 updated chapters in this new edition. They include advances in atomic force microscopy, structured illumination microscopy and other 3-D approaches, as well as imaging in single cells in animals and in plants. New analytical options include live high-throughput/high-content screening in mammalian cells and computational analysis of live cell data. Live Cell Imaging: A Laboratory Manual presents hands-on techniques as well as background material, and can serve as a text in advanced courses. The first section covers principles and fundamental issues of detection and imaging; the second provides detailed protocols for imaging live systems.

"I highly recommend this latest edition of Live Cell Imaging to anybody who wishes to implement available technologies to probe the in vivo dynamics of a protein or tissue of interest. This book allows the reader to contemplate how to use existing equipment with some minor adjustments or simple application of reagents and analytical tools. Furthermore, this book provides a comprehensive analysis of the latest imaging technologies available in the field and should therefore be invaluable to any researcher who wishes to find a discussion of all of these techniques and applications under one umbrella."
– Microscopy and Microanalysis

"Many world-leading microscopy and image analysis experts [...] have their say in the multifaceted chapters of this book. The many color illustrations help the reader to understand even highly complex connections [...] we can recommend this book to all researchers and imaging specialists. However, it is not only interested individuals with an existing affinity for live cell microscopy who should keep a copy [...] on their bedside table. Readers who are getting to grips with the analysis of living systems for the first time will also get their money's worth from this book."
