The group of orchid genera represented in Thailand by Liparis, Oberonia and Malaxis is by most modern authors considered a subtribe of the tribe Epidendreae, its correct name being Liparidinae Lindl. Ex Miquel, F1. Bat. 3: 621, 1855. In an earlier paper (Seidenfaden, 1976) a revision was undertaken of the genus Liparis in Thailand, the present paper concludes the revision of the subtribe, listing the Thai representatives of Oberonia and Malaxis, comprising 33 and 22 species respectively the subtribe accordingly is well represented in Thailand, nearly 10% of the Thai Orchids belonging in this subtribe.
It should be noted that the author undertook a study of the genus Oberonia in Mainland Asia (Seidenfaden 1968). Later finds have increased our knowledge of the occurrence of the genus in Thailand, and an attempt has been made to solve some further nomenclatural questions so it seems justified to include Oberonia in the present series even if this means some repetition from the earlier paper.
