The renowned Czech painter and book illustrator Zdeněk Michael František Burian (1905–1981) is considered one of the most influential palaeoartists of all time and is best known internationally for his paintings of dinosaurs, extinct mammals and prehistoric humans.
This book, the first of a trilogy, contains a total of 412 paintings, illustrations, and sketches, of which 344 were reproduced from the original art. The remainder were scanned from high-quality negatives, slides, or xerox copies while only a few, labelled in the book as “original unavailable” (originál nedostupný), are photographed from the original publications. Included are previously unpublished sketches and notes.
This volume is 250 × 337 mm in size and weighs close to 4 kg. The text is in Czech and the publisher has confirmed that there are no plans to translate this into English.
