About this book

Language: Czech

The renowned Czech painter and book illustrator Zdeněk Michael František Burian (1905-1981) is considered one of the most influential palaeoartists of all time and is best known internationally for his paintings of dinosaurs, extinct mammals and prehistoric man. This book, the first of a projected series of three, contains a total of 412 paintings, illustrations, and sketches, of which 344 were reproduced from the original art. The remainder were scanned from high-quality negatives, slides, or xerox copies while only a few, labelled in the book as “original unavailable” (originál nedostupný), are photographed from the original publications. Included are previously unpublished sketches and notes.

This volume is 250 × 337 mm in size and weighs close to 4 kg. The text is in Czech and the publisher has confirmed that there are no plans to translate this into English.
