Comeback Carnivores
Britain’s mammals were once endangered in the UK, but a new review suggests with the exception of wildcats the status of our native carnivores including badgers, foxes, otters and pine martens have markedly improved. The results have been attributed to improved legal protection, conservation, removal of pollutants and restoration of habitats.

Dermal Diversity
Recent research has shown that the microbial diversity of the skin of amphibians is dependent on the bioclimate. Bacterial diversity is highest in colder more variable temperature environments – unexpected when considering most animals and plants are more diverse in the tropics.

Koala-spotting Drone
Researches in Australia have developed an automated method for detecting koala heat signatures. This non-invasive technology has the potential increase the reliability of detection, which can inform and improve management decisions.
