New marine parks announced by Chile and Niue
Three new marine protected areas in the South Pacific will afford protection to 290,000 square miles of ocean; an area twice the size of Germany.

New species of hermit crab discovered
A new species of hermit crab that uses coral to form its shelter has been found in southern Japan. The crab has been named Diogenes heteropsammicola after the coral it carries.
