From the preface:
"In the last 20 years, the number of terrarium hobbyists has increased dramatically, exerting a certain pressure on the veterinary profession, resulting in a respectable number of colleagues that are knowledgeable about reptiles. However, it is premature to assume good coverage of all types of veterinary care for reptiles. Animal owners often have to travel long distances to gain access to a veterinarian who specializes in reptiles. Therefore, owners have to take some responsibility in recognizing illness. This is why I gladly accepted the publisher's request to write a book in the Professional Breeders Series that is primarily directed at animal owners. I hope that the following information will help readers deepen their understanding of disease processes and their treatment in snakes, and thus contribute to preventing illness."
