The Song Meter® SM5BAT is a must-have for professional ecologists; the all-new SM5BAT captures it all: bats, birds, and everything in between, all at once, and it does it while delivering the best battery performance on the market.

Two ultrasonic microphones alongside two acoustic microphones give you two bat recorders and a stereo bird recorder, all in one device.

Equipped with onboard GPS, it automatically records precise timestamps and locations, while synchronising data across multiple recorders. This allows you to map and analyse detections accurately across all connected microphones.

Thanks to a re-engineered flexible enclosure, this device can be powered by lithium-ion and alkaline batteries. Additionally, it is compatible with our Solar Power Kit or it can be connected to another external source.

Built to withstand tough conditions, it features a robust IP67-rated weatherproof enclosure and integrated microphones, ensuring consistent performance in any outdoor environment.


Configuration is simple and wireless: use the Song Meter Configurator app on your iOS or Android device to program settings, create schedules, and estimate deployment durations—all via Bluetooth. Designed for the future, it includes an expansion port for upcoming cellular remote access (available in 2026), enabling remote data downloads, status checks, and settings adjustments. This port also supports custom electronics for advanced edge analysis.

The SM5BAT includes one built-in ultrasonic and one built-in acoustic microphone. Additional cabled mics, stub mics, the Power Kit, and other accessories are available separately.
