This is a monograph on the spore morphology of the Chinese pteridophytes, the first of its kind every appeared in China. It consists of 174 genera and about 1,000 species found in 52 families, with 119 illustrations and 101 plates of microphotographs, in which 89 plates are related to recent spores and 12 plates to fossil spores. It provides good references to college teachers, plant taxonomists, palynologists, palaeobotanists, and phytogeographers who are working in Cretaceous and Cenozoic palaeobotany as well as in phylogenetic research on ferns. The Chinese version of this book has won the prize for important scientific and technological achievements from Academia Sinica
