About this book

Language: Dutch

Why is the long-tailed tit not direct family of the great tit? If you know the family of a bird, it is subsequently easier to name a species. Vogelfamilies van Nederland will teach the reader to look at birds in a different way. This bird book is a useful supplement to existing bird guides and of interest to both beginning and expert birders.

Birds that belong to the same family, such as grebes, woodpeckers, or tits, show many similarities in appearance and behaviour. With that knowledge, the world of birds becomes more comprehensible and interesting, and watching and recognizing birds becomes even more enjoyable. Knowledge of bird families is also a very practical skill when watching birds abroad.

Vogelfamilies van Nederland describes the 62 families that encompass the Dutch bird fauna. Once you can name the family, recognizing the species becomes easier. Using family traits and unique species characteristics, this book will help the reader navigate the world of birds. This book follows the newest version 2021 IOC World Bird List for the classification and order of bird families. The texts reproduced here were previously published in modified form in Dutch magazines De Kieft and Vogeljaar.

Summary in Dutch:

World Bird List van 2021 aangehouden.
