About this book

Language: English

This book presents a new system of forest classification for Thailand. It is based on elevation, seasonality, vegetational structure, and all aspects of the flora. Doi Sutep-Pui National Park is highlighted since it includes some of the most complex and diverse habitats in the kingdom. Forests from c. 350-c. 850 m are basically deciduous while facies above this to the summit of Doi Pui (1685 m) are evergreen. A detailed botanical database for 2247 species, etc. includes habit, seasonality, abundance, habitat, elevation range, and flowering, fruiting, and leafing phenologies. Various problems involving conservation, tourism, agriculture, and "development" as well as reforestation in the national park are discussed.
