About this book

Language: French

Plants are not distributed at random in nature, they form plant communities, depending on their affinities for the nature of the soil, the degree of humidity, exposure to light, etc. The Bailleul National Botanical Conservatory has always been known for its involvement in the study and characterization of this vegetation. While there are multiple catalogues of vegetation, more or less descriptive, the contributors to this book deplore the absence of guides resolutely oriented towards the determination and identification of vegetation in the field. This book, therefore, fills an important gap by providing identification keys and reliable criteria that allow the recognition of plant groups.

Each of the 540 associations in the north of France is then treated in the form of a monograph: complete morphological description, elements of ecology, chorology, a departmental map and a summary table which includes all the indices related to soil (humidity, pH, organic matter, grain size) and environmental characteristics (nutrients, light, salinity). This book will allow botanists and ecologists to familiarize themselves with phytosociology and thus contribute to the knowledge and conservation of natural environments in northern France.
