The papers brought together in this volume represent the outcome of the 7th Meeting of the ICAZ Fish Remains Working Group, held from the 6th to the 10th of September 1993, in Leuven, Belgium. The meeting was attended by 45 participants of 13 different nationalities, which demonstrates the growing interest in the study of fish remains from archaeological sites. A wide variety of topics were presented, including taphonomy, quantification methods, osteometry, osteomorphology, and ancient methods of fishing and processing. Interdisciplinarity is becoming more important; this is illustrated by several papers which combine ethnographic and historical data, and utilise evidence from fish bones.
