About this book

Language: English

Snails of the genus Pseudachatina are both conspicuous and attractive, and form an important element of the moUuscan fauna of a restricted area of tropical rain forest in West Africa. Since the genus's proposal in 1850 by Albers, various authors have added to the knowledge of the genus, and each contributor has descibed some new species or varieties. However, an indication of the difficulties inherent in this genus can be seen by the varying interpretation given to different forms by each of these authors. What is considered as a variety of a species by one author is given specific rank by the next and vice versa. Since Pilsbry's 1904 monograph no comprehensive account has been attempted. This book present such a revision, and reports anatomical examinations and morphological measurements.
