About this book

Language: Spanish with bilingual keys in English and Spanish

Fauna Ibérica, Volume 47: Annelida: Polychaeta VI constitutes a new advance in the knowledge of the marine Annelids of the coasts of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. After the publication of five volumes dedicated to this group of invertebrates (volumes 21, 25, 36, 41, and 45), this work focuses on what are known as sedentary polychaetes, and in particular the Canalipalpata clade.

This volume includes a detailed study of three families of tube-dwelling, suspensivore polychaetes included in the Order Sabellida: Fabriciidae Rioja, 1923, Sabellidae Latreille, 1825, and Serpulidae Rafinesque, 1815. To achieve this, an in-depth taxonomic and bibliographic review of each family has been written, presenting a general introduction, including the most relevant features on their taxonomy, anatomy and systematics, along with identification keys for genera and species. For each of the 122 species included in this work, a detailed morphological description is accompanied by an iconography, as well as a synthesis of current knowledge about their biology and geographic distribution. The book is illustrated with plates of original drawings or those collected from previous articles, as well as photographs taken under the scanning electron microscope. The book includes a complete and updated bibliography, as well as a nomenclature appendix.
