About this book

Language: German

This new volume in the series Sammlung geologischer Führer combines the tried and tested with the new. It is a completely revised and significantly expanded version of Volume 62 of the Geological Guide Hegau und westlicher Bodensee (1976). Under the new title Hegau: Geologie der Vulkanlandschaft zwischen Donau und Bodensee, it describes the geological structure and history of the extensive volcanic landscape of the German Hegau region, between the southern edge of the Swabian Jura and the Upper Danube to the north-west of Lake Constance. The characteristic volcanic cones, including the well-known Hohentwiel near Singen, are vents of former volcanic structures that have been uncovered by erosion and glacial overprinting.

After brief references to vegetation, soil science and archaeology, the introductory part provides a detailed description of the geological conditions and the rocks found in the Hegau. A reference to natural hazards and the raw material situation complete it. A total of 63 excursion points are subsequently described; in addition, excursion suggestions and the coordinates of the excursion points are attached in tabular form. The excursion points are described in detail and can be explored on your own thanks to detailed location information. At the same time, the increasing importance of the interrelationship between man and nature is taken into account in various chapters. The conclusion is formed by an extensive list of literature and maps as well as an index of geographical designations and geological technical terms.

This volume is aimed at all geologically interested readers and is intended to arouse curiosity about exploring the Hegau.
